Religion is such a touchy topic to people and i can see why at times. People have this belief of a man or god saving them of there sins and all that. I my self am not religious at all. Only been in church for a couple weddings ive attended and for funnerals. Not once for a sunday morning or ever to CCD. I simply believe in what i can see feel and talk to to PHYSICALLY. Now there could be a god and im screwed for not believing him or i can continue to believe that when i die i am simply burried 6 feet under for my body to rot. Yes it seems like there are miracles that are “Acts of god” but any miracle is just same as really unlikely probablitiy of something. The chance a person has of getting his life saved by a last minute phone call is just as likely as winning the lottery on your first play. There just two very unlikely events that happen to happen that first try of 934857389457893457394857389 chance. That can seem like miracle. I have nothing against religion i simply dont believe in it much at all. I need to see jesus, or allah, or abraham or budda myself and sit down with and smoke a hookah before im gonna devote a life of goodness and boringness to go to “heaven”. I have never based someone on their beliefs and wont start but im gonna live my life in no regret. I do have morals and do good deeds, but if i choose to curse, smoke, drink, have sex before marriage and never go to church and learn a sinngle prayer im going to. No of that is going to change what happens when i die. Im burried and missed for some time and life goes on and new people are born to make the word go round.

Plague of Tics

I have always grown up hearing about people who have soome sort of tic and i never really met one but it seems they go through a whole sort of trouble. I can remember a video i saw on HBO or Showtime that showed kids with tics and what they go through in school. A lot of it was kids with a tic or studder giving their story and the sad part was kids could think fully i there heads, but just cant get what they want to say out in the right manner. A little boy was telling his story and as he studdered to get out, he said i know what i want to say and it all make sense in my head but when he moves his lips the words just cant come out in fluid sentence. He stops and studders and struggles to get the words out. I see this and it make me feel so bad because there are times where i struggle find the words i want to say and i can speak with out any tics and studders yet i get pissed when i cant find the words. Like this kid in the story with rolling his eyes and pressing his nose, everybody with a tic usually has something different. I just hope these kids continue to fight and work thorugh there condition because they do think and want to act like the so called “normal” person but some disorder is holding them back. to me this makes them much stronger than anyone not going through what they are.

Canned Laughter

I decided to read the haha joke and i found it all makes perfect sense. PERFECT sense. I know this because i go through my fake laugh everyday listening to one of the girls i live with. I dont mean to be rude but there are stories she tells that make me want to jump of a bridge and shes laughing away and as i listen i fake my laugh to be polite. When i was younger i was also confused about hearing the canned laughter on television. I didnt think my laugh was being broadcast to everyone else who “laughed” at the same time but i did think that the live studio audience produced that exact laugh as heard on TV. I know i fit all the types of the 3 laughs explained. I have my real laugh which probably doesn’t come to often. Im not up tight but i feel like i fake real laugh a lot more of the time and may mistaken it to be a genuine laugh. But that applies in different ways. I know when i watch family guy ive seen every episode 100 times so i know what to expect a lot of the time so i know this upcoming part is funny so i make my self laugh when seeing it again and again. Ive been conditioned. Its not like the first time actually seeing and getting that real laugh out at what i just saw.

Overall i really liked this article. It wasnt that boring article you’ve read 100 times before and prepare to talk about the next day in class. It stirred up ideas and reminded of many things relevant to this topic. When thinking about this fake laughter it made me remember how much i hated it when i was getting older and realized that it was just a pre recorded room of people laughing and that they have various levels of it. Lucky this will one day be obsolete.

ENG 202 Research topics

When i sat down to think about some ideas for this upcoming annotated bibliography and research paper i found i had a tough time thinking of something. After some pondering i came across 2 actually good interesting ideas that also happen to go along with my geography major. One which is broad and i will probably steer away from is a global warming topic. This topic is a little too huge but i had the idea of researching the aspect of adapting to to warming earth with rising waters that could lead to another ice age. Humans have adapted through ice ages before with less technology so whats stopping us now from a changing earth.

My other idea which i feel is my definite choice is talk and research a phenomenon in the pacific ocean called el nino and el nina or other wise the southern ocean oscillation. This is responsible for a huge range in ocean temps along SW united states, all of western South America, Australia and Indonesia. It affects fishing markets and floods agricultural fields and in the US can cause horrible droughts through out the whole country. I would like to research these exact affects and search what causes this phenomenon, who it affects and how much, where it happens, what predicting the el nino or el nina year can save and hopefully bring up other questions as well.

My teacher did not specify one article in particular but he did recommend an author and teacher from penn state they he had as a teacher when he was obtaining his Ph. D. I searched him and some of his writings were very old but i came across an article written not by Peter Gould (Dr. B’s Penn State Teacher) but by another name about Gould’s Book Becoming a Geographer. This book talked about Peters Crazy life and all the things he has been through and seen like being on a boat that was torpedoed by A German U boats during world war too. This article also mentioned that Gould captured his audience by his blunt and sometimes rude and racial antics. This is what kept his research interesting to other readers. While i struggle to find free publications of his work this sounds like a great man and from his bio he seems very intelligent. Also Dr. B told me how great his work was too so i feel this may be a helpful writer to use when looking for sources in our upcoming research project.

English 202 Hooked on Gagets Response

This Article was long but flew by reading it. For me to say that is very rare for i am a slow reader and flat out i just really dislike reading anything. Though this article made me think alot about multitasking. I never really thought about the process of it before and distracting and even addicting it could be. I saw this man almost miss out on millions of dollars more than once for a distraction on his computer that caused him to over look a very important email.

Also the studies on Multitasking with the “Non-multitaskers” and the ” heavy Multitaskers” was very interesting. I was not expecting the heavy taskers to perform worse but indeed they did. I took the rectangle tests my self and i know i am not a multitasker but the fact that i dont multitask i performed slightly better than average like the test studies showed in the article.

I liked this article and found it very relavant to our up coming class disussion. I feel this debate will be a good one wednesday in class. This is a word growing and depending on technology and im interested to see if it becomes an addiction or a social norm.

Final Blog

So here i am writting my last blog entry and i thought i wrote a lot of blogs last year. Once again im glad i had this class and got to do the Malren experience. A tough one but always worth in the end. I really have absolutely no idea what to write about in this blog but im gonna just wing it.

So yea were about 2/3 done Henry and June which is wild movie i must say write now. I dont think in an immature way but from what you told us about it when we had to vote told no lie. Uma is little scary in this movie, i never could really see her acting that part but she does it well. I could only imagine how this movie ends.

I guess marlen if you do happen to come across this blog and read it, whats going on with a new teaching job in the future. Do you plan to teach your class the same way you have at IUP? Or are you going to come up with yet another crazy work intensive curriculum that leaves kids dead, in a good way. Either way we all know you’ll do well and i wish you luck.
